Rifle Pistol Caliber Comparison Charts

This chart below is ideal for comparing bullet calibers, cartridges and projectiles.  To compare and calculate metric and imperial calibers, you just have to remember that one inch is 25.4mm.  If going from imperial to metric, you multiply 25.4 by the caliber (eg. 25.4 x .30 = 7.62mm).  If going from metric to imperial, you divide the caliber by 25.4

(eg. 9mm divided by 25.4 = 0.354~inches).

This ballistics table is based on data using specific bullet weights in factory loaded ammunition. Of course, the data will change depending on the bullet weight but the information can be used to compare different calibers in general.

The ballistics table can also be used to determine how you need to site your gun in. For instance I sight my .30-06 in at about 2 inches high at 100 yards. This puts me at zero at 200 yards and I would still be in the kill zone as it approaches 300 yards. This tells me that out to close to 300 yards I could hold dead center and still hit the heart/lung area on a deer size animal.
